Torres Del Paine

The most I saw of the Torres Del paine from the warmth of the Refugio
Tim in his apres trek outfit

Jen Approaching Camp italianos ( no camping for me!)

Refugio Curneos and all the comforts as long as you have Pesos!

Sleet, snow, wind and rain and fantastic scenery that photos will never do justice to

Barb and Tim went up a day early to walk to the Grey Glacier so they can tell you about that day.

Jen and Von went up the next day and met the welcoming party at the wharf on the lake near the Paine Grande lodge. (Deb had come home to Oz by then). A quick lunch and off we set, to battle the winds and rain to head to our refugio for the night (Cuenos). Gortex really comes into its own in this land!

WE walked and walked ...

Those who see the park
in perfect postcard condition
think they are lucky!

But those who come
in battering storms
when the wind contourts the trees
whips waves onto the lakes,
spins the snowdrift into a flurry
and drives the water into crevices
to be turned into ice
and chisel out a new face.
As the mist is blown from the valley floor and
for a moment unveils
the everchanging sculptures of El Torres.
We Know we are the lucky ones
for we have seen a great artist at work.
