El Calafate (Argentina)

This is a traditional house made of little clay bricks. We went for dessert and had Calafate Berry Parfait and washed it down with a calaftate berry liquer. It is said that if you dont have enough calafate berry liquer you will come back to the town and if you have too much you will never leave!

Von en route at the Chile border post (Monday 6th October)

The main reason for visiting El Calafarte is to see the galciers and that´s where we are off to now. Tim and Barb are doing an Ice Trek first(it finished with a world exclusive experience... scotch on the rocks! they told us somehthing in the glass could be 100years old... I dont think it was the whiskey!)
, Jen and I going out on the afternoon bus to see the big glacier, hopefully by boat to get some good photos. Tuesday 7th October

The pesos change but at least its all still in Spanish as our basic Espanol is improving... lunch time now - back later

the Glacier unexpectedly crumbled with a loud roar and a crack. If it fell into the lake a huge wave would flow across the surface. It was amazing but difficult to capture on film.
