Touch down Lima

So Barbra and Tim are safely on Sth American soil. Arrived in Lima, Peru at 1am in the morning to find out hotel pickup was not there and the hotel was not answering their phone. Fortunately a nice lady waiting for her family helped out and we were able to eventually contact someone and we took a taxi to the hotel.

The only had a twin so this morning we were upgraded free of charge to a higher rated room with a *matrimonial* bed. Double rooms in Sth America are what we call twins and if you want a double bed you have to ask for a matrimonial room. Actually we had figured this out before we left so it was their mistake, hence the upgrade.

In case you are wondering about the asterisks above instead of quote marks, spannish keyboards are something beyond my comprehension. The @ symbol is ALTGR Q and each sentance with a question mark has to start with an upside down one ¿ like that. Same for sentances with exclamation marks¡ So nothing is in the same spot.

Anyway, the new room is ready now so we are off to find a spanish language class.

We presume that Jen, Vonny and Deb are now one their way. Looking forward to seeing them in a few days.
Hasta luego

Magic Castle

So we had a brilliant, albeit very short stopover in Los Angeles. The highlight was the Magic Castle that you just have to see if you are ever there. Its on a hill overlooking Hollywood, i.e directly between the main blvd with all the stars in the footpath and the big sign on the hill.

Its members only club but if you stay in the hotel you get assigned a host member who takes you in as a visitor. Its an incredible labrynth of corridors and cave like rooms, each with a paid professional magician. We saw about 6 shows in one evening.

Some highlights were three wedding rings from the Audience somehow being put into a chain and then back again! Others were more of a show with a mixture of comedy and tricks. Lots of card, coin and hankerchief magic of course.

the highlight came right at the end when we saw a trick with three seemingly solid coins which we initialled. The magician put them in a glass on the table and shook them around and one dissappeared to reappear on the other side of the table! Of coure I immediately check the table for hidden holes in the felt etc. So it did it again on top of a dollar note on top of the hand of another spectator and same thing happened. All about 20cm away from my eyes!

While you were waiting to get into shows some members entertained with card tricks and one of them was an Aussie we got on very well with. At the end of his routine I asked if he would like to see one of the only five card tricks I know. So I got to do a trick in the world famous magic castle! Later on he showed me how to do one of his tricks and I showed him the one I did so that was great.

Til next time.

Unexpected time in Auckland Airport

OK,
We have had our big hitch already. Good to get it out of the way on the first day, we reckon.
So Barb and Tim got up at the spritely hour of 5am to catch the train to Wellington for our connecting flight to Auckland. Enough time for a leisurely breakfast in the city then out the to the airport to find the flight delayed by half an hour. No problems as we had a four hour gap in Auckland. So far so good. Arrived in Auckland to find that flight delayed by another four hours! So we have had eight hours to explore the international airport. Walked half an hour to the nearest shopping centre to while away the time. Then back to post our send entry in this blog. Hopefully they will get more exciting later on!
Love Tim and Barb.
